Mansfield is a popular town in Nottinghamshire, England. Mansfield Park is located on the River Maun and derived its name from it – Mauns-field. With a population of 69,987 people, it is considered as a part of the Mansfield Urban Area. A major rise in the population of this town took place with the expansion of coal mining in the 19th century. Mansfield was formerly the chief town of Sherwood Forest, the base for the legendary activities of the popular hero, Robin Hood.

Reaching Mansfield is not a problem, as it is well-connected with all the major cities in England through an excellent transport system. One can easily board buses operated by Stagecoach, Trent Barton, Unity Coaches and Veolia Transport in and around Mansfield. Besides this, there is a railway link that connects this town with Nottingham and Worksop. Mansfield Park was the largest town in the UK that didn't have a railway station, but later it became the terminus of the Mansfield and Pinxton Railway.

Popular as the largest town in the country, Mansfield is known for its heritage, art and busy nightlife. Some of the places worth visiting here include Mansfield Museum, Mansfield Palace Theatre, and Watermeadows. Besides this, the town's ancient churches and industrial heritage are worth exploring. Dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, the Parish Church is one of the oldest churches in Mansfield. Manfield's historic buildings like the White Lion Yard, which is a home to caves and buildings reminds the visitors to the Tudor Times.

Another attraction in Mansfield is its 700-year old open market. Operating six days a week, this ancient market comprises of boutiques, specialist stores, departmental stores, retail parks and shopping centres. No wonder, with something for everyone, Mansfield claims to be the leading town situated outside Nottingham city in England.
