Mansfield District Primary Care Trust
England has in all 31 Teaching Primary Care Trusts. In order to help recruit GPs in the deprived areas, the Department of Health set up the first Teaching PCTs in 2000 and Mansfield District Primary Care Trust is one such organization.
Counted as one of the major health care trusts in United Kingdom, the Mansfield District Primary Care Trust came to be known as Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust since 1st October 2006. Apart from the Mansfield District, Nottinghamshire County has taken over five primary care trusts, namely, Ashfield, Broxtowe and Hucknall, Gedling, Newark and Sherwood and Rushcliffe.
Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust is also referred to as Nottinghamshire County tPCT. It is responsible for both planning and paying for the health care of Nottinghamshire County population excluding Nottingham City and Bassetlaw.
Nottinghamshire PCT is also responsible for allocating money to local NHS trusts like Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust. Besides this, one of the prime responsibilities of this tPCT is to look after all the community NHS services like, school and district nursing, dentistry, opticians and pharmacy.
It is the duty of the Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust to improve and protect the health of the local population by taking in to account the inequalities in health problems like reducing smoking, one of the major causes of cancer. This Primary Care Trust is currently controlling a budget of £839 million for the year 2007 – 2008.
